Seachem AmGuard is an emergency treatment that binds ammonia, and also chlorine and chloramine, in freshwater and marine aquariums. It is useful when a test shows a sudden ammonia spike, for example after overfeeding, a death in the tank or filter failure. The 100ml bottle is a sensible size to keep on hand. Identify and fix the underlying cause, combine with water changes, and retest until levels return to zero.
